Jennifer Barnes, Wahroonga Dietitian

Jennifer is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian who is passionate about enjoying healthy lifestyles. She firmly believes that eating well should be accessible to everyone. As a working mum of four children, she is convinced that this can be as simple or as complex as you would like Jennifer enjoys the challenge of finding the balance between the foods you love and foods that your body will love. She also understands that the busyness of life and its stresses can often unpack good intentions. With this in mind, Jennifer loves to develop creative and flexible strategies to help people live well.

It is these foundational beliefs that have kept Jennifer engaged with her profession, a career that has spanned over 25 years. Jennifer first studied a Bachelor of Science in 1996 and then completed a Masters of Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) at University of Wollongong graduating in 1998. During her Masters she was fortunate to spend time working with communities in the Cook Islands, where she began her journey with patient centred work. After graduating, Jennifer primarily worked within specialist units both in London and Sydney, most recently at Royal Prince Alfred and Westmead Hospitals. During her career she has been involved in the care of people with weight challenges, high cholesterol, pancreatitis, liver disease, and diabetes. Jennifer has a special interest in menopausal health, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and family nutrition. Her expertise also extends to oncology, where she has supported patients to eat safely and well between, and during, treatments. Regardless of the field, it has been the partnering with people to find solutions to varying dietary health problems that has given Jennifer the greatest professional enjoyment, and has ultimately led her to pursue private practice.

Jennifer is known for her compassionate, empathetic nature. She is committed to being a positive force in people’s lives. Her approach focuses on personalised care, helping individuals overcome barriers to achieve goals that are important to them.

Outside of her professional work, Jennifer enjoys an active lifestyle with her husband and four children. She loves running, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Jennifer is excited to join Wahroonga Dietitian, a new chapter in her career. She looks forward to partnering with you as you discover a range of foods that will help you to eat well to live well.
